Haydon School Magazine

My first Preliminary task was to create a magazine about the school (front cover and contents page). First step of creating the two pages was taking the pictures we were going to be using - in order for them to be effective , we had to take pictures in relation to Haydon. after this we had to use a selection and rejection process. I did this because i wanted to see what pictures would be more Professional Looking and and appeal more to my demographic.

Evaluation:

Masthead:

The Masthead is in a yellow font. Size wise it is very big and the location of the mashead is more central than other magazines. With yellow we can draw that the magazine has a very positive tone and a very eccentric . I think that this a successful Masthead within it's genre because the magazine reports news in and around the Haydon community and considering that yellow is part of the school colours , I think that

Picture:
the pciture is of two friends sitting on the stairs.they seem to be deep in conversation and enjoying themselves. I think that if someone else was to analyse this picture they wouldn't understand what the meaning of the picture was - making it ineffective;

Sell Lines:
The sell lines are in relation to the picture - celebrating the success of Haydon's results and information on the school year and also a competition for readers to enter. Most magazines include a competition to boost readership , to try and get the reader intrested before purchasing , but putting information on the front cover proves ineffective as it is not clear , it is not the first sell line to grab the reader's attention.

Contents Page :

Pictures:
The pictures on the contents page are of part of the school building and with an interviewee. If someone else was to analyse the pictures and their purpose was to visually give an idea about the magazine.The borders arround the picture draw more attention to them as well. Due to this I think they fufil their purpose only improvement I would make is to add more pictures.

Colours:
The colours used in the contents page do not seem to match those used in the front page - breaking the colour scheme rule (no more than three otherwise it doesn't look professional). I think if it did follow the colours used on the front it would look more professional and would look like a viable competitor.

Content of the contents page:
There are a range of pages in my magazine article. I think that it's unusual to include a hororscope but I think that my magazine is trying to relate to it's readers and it's trying to seperate itself from contenders. I think that in terms of improvements it just needs more Haydon related news.
